Enjoy local melons from the campground store in late June. With the campground's convenient location off I-75, you have easy access to many area attractions. Head for sparkling Lake Blackshear, an 8,700-acre boating, fishing and waterskiing haven. Hop on the SAM Shortline train to visit President Jimmy Carter's former campaign headquarters in Plains and his boyhood home in Archery. You'll pass fanciful Victorian architecture at Americus, once a bustling cotton exchange. The Andersonville National Historic Site, the location of the Confederate prison camp, lies 40 miles west.

Several courses including: Cordele-Crisp Municipal Golf Course (oldest in the region, Par 71), Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park (18-hole championship public course), Lake Blackshear Golf and Country Club (18-hole, Par 72), Pine Hills Country Club (18-hole semi-private championship course), Eagles Golf (our latest Custom Golf Club Outlet, offers lighted driving range with professional instruction that has guaranteed results for any golfer).

Local Attractions
Georgia Veterans Memorial State Park
The Georgia Veterans Memorial state park is open from 7 am to 10 pm. Two museums are located within the park. The indoor museum houses exhibits which interpret military actions from the Revolutionary War through the Gulf War. The outdoor museum houses aircraft, armored vehicles and guns from World War I through Vietnam. The park also features an 18-hole golf course, 7,000 acre Lake Blackshear, and a new conference retreat center. Activities include model airplane flying, boating and waterskiing (private boats permitted), and fishing (bass, crappie, catfish and bream). Annual events include an Easter Egg Hunt, Memorial Day Celebration, Independence Day Celebration, Veterans Day Ceremony and Artifact Identification Day.

Lake Blackshear

The Andersonville Trail
The Andersonville trail offers a sampling of antique shops, museums, historic homes, and local southern fare. The centerpiece of the driving tour is the Andersonville National Historic Site, the location of a Confederate prison where 13,000 Union soldiers died. It is also home to an active National Cemetery for all prisoners of war throughout our nation’s history.

Climb aboard the new southwest Georgia excursion train to discover the real Georgia! Riding in air-conditioned, 1949 vintage cars, you will enjoy a mix of romantic yesteryear with the excitement of today's South. While the SAM shortline travels past pecan groves and scenic country farms, it stops in four towns filled with fun attractions, restaurants and shopping. You can step off the train at any of these depots, catching it back on the return trip. Or better yet, spend the night in a charming hotel to resume your excursion the next day.
