Want to sample the best of Tennessee? Your hosts here will make it happen.
Want to sample the best of Tennessee? Your hosts here will make it happen. Start by selecting a campsite in this choice spot amid rolling hills, between the Cumberland Plateau and the Appalachians. Your KOA hosts can set you up with discounts for popular Chattanooga attractions like Lookout Mountain and the Tennessee Aquarium. They'll arrange a discounted rafting trip down the nearby Ocoee, one of the most impressive whitewater rivers in the nation. Gospel singers and bluegrass musicians sometimes perform on summer evenings at the campground. Your hosts also can arrange for some of the best barbecue in the South to be served up right at KOA. (What a great idea for groups!) Kids can chug through the campground on the Little Choo Choo, the miniature train inspired by the famous "Chattanooga Choo Choo" song.
Meet Your Hosts
The campground business is a joint family effort, according to the Wiles family, owners of the Chattanooga North KOA in Tennessee.
Jerry and his wife, Harriet, along with his brother, Terry, and sister-in-law, Brenda, wanted to make a change in lifestyle and decided to purchase a campground together. Jerry had formerly been a surface coal miner. "We wanted to do something different," says Jerry, "and this was it."
Originally, the two couples had wanted to purchase a larger campground big enough for two families to live on, but since Terry and Brenda had children who were still going to school at the time, that option was impractical. Terry and Brenda are now silent partners, while Jerry and Harriet live and work on the campground.
They are constantly trying to improve their campground to make it more accommodating for their campers. Recently, they enlarged their sites to accommodate larger RV's. "We try to please everybody," says Jerry. "But if we can't do that, then we do the best we can. We try to get along with everybody."

Experience the thrill of riding "America’s Most Amazing Mile" as the incline climbs historic Lookout Mountain. Chattanooga and the surrounding mountains and valleys come alive as the trolley-style rail cars carry you into the clouds. The breathtaking grade of the tract at 72.7 percent near the top gives the incline the unique distinction of being the steepest passenger railway in the world.
Tennessee Aquarium - Chattanooga
Feel the spray of a cascading waterfall. Experience the seasons of a lush mountain forest where river otters play. Stand eye-to-eye with hulking sixty-five pound catfish patrolling the depths of the Tennessee River. Explore the Amazon River where piranhas dart among anaconda and boa constrictors. Listen to the birds in the mist-shrouded Delta. Freshwater sustains all life on earth, yet we know so little about this magical and complex world of swamps, streams, lake, and bogs. This is one of the world’s largest aquariums, and the only one to reveal in such stunning detail the fascinating web of life supported by freshwater.
Tennessee Valley Railroad - Chattanooga
The "Golden Age" of American railroading lasted for about fifty years during which time rail empires were built, two world wars were fought and frequent passenger trains rolled almost everywhere. You are invited to ride the train, see the audio visual show, browse through our exhibits, tour the repair shop, enjoy the dining room and explore our gift shops.
