Welcome to the Big Timber KOA! New ownership as of the 2020 season! With friendly, helpful staff and ongoing improvements and remodeling, we want to make your visit relaxing, rejuvenating and fun!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE: Our store will close for the season Oct 1. We will be offering dry camping (Electric and Sewer only, NO water) with no facilities through Thanksgiving weekend. Feel free to email us at [email protected] with any questions!
We are located at I-90 exit 377, on the south side frontage road (same side as the Prairie Dog Town State Park). Filled with beautiful trees and bordered by a lazy Montana creek, the Big Timber KOA is a wonderful spot to come relax and spend time with friends and family. On-site, enjoy our heated pool and jumping pillow, or we have a game room with air hockey and a pool table for evening fun. Our friendly staff is happy to make suggestions if you're interested in a few hours or a day trip to enjoy the beautiful Montana outdoors. We offer free WiFi. We can accommodate rigs up to 110 feet! Our pull-through sites sell out fast, so please call for availability. No RV? Stay in a comfortable cabin or bring your tent for an old-fashioned camping experience. Many local attractions, including Natural Bridge Falls, the Crazy Mountain Museum, and quaint dining and shopping in Big Timber. Your park host: Jake Klingensmith

Our stay was great! Just one thing to mention for consideration: We paid in advance and had our campsite assigned to us, while people arriving without a reservation were told to pick whatever spot they wanted... 4/14/2024

The campground was beautiful. Couldn’t believe there was a pool!! We did lose power about 5 am and it was 28° out but we were able to get the generator running and it was all good. 12/12/2023

This is a very convenient stop while traveling on I-90. Spots are ample, and the park was clean. The only negative was the sound of the trains blowing their whistles throughout the night. If you're a sound sleeper -- no problem! But our dogs aren't used to train whistles... 10/5/2023

Nice place and well kept. The highway and train noise however is way to noisy almost like staying in a rest area.If we were to stay there again we would try to get farther away from highway. 10/5/2023

Just 4 miles from the Big Timber KOA, this working water-powered gristmill is housed in a historic timber-frame building alongside a coffee shop serving breakfast and lunch. While you are there, check out the underground Greycliff Market and Creamery, where you can buy local goods and sample cheeses made in their cheese cave. Venture down an 80 foot underground tunnel to see a timber-frame greenhouse with flowers, waterfalls and trout. There are walking trails and swings to enjoy, as well as resident buffalo to visit.

A 30 minute drive south of Big Timber brings you to Natural Bridge Falls . The paved paths start at the parking lot and meander along the Boulder River. There are several viewing points with signs telling about the area, falls and wildlife. In the spring, there are actually three separate falls. Later in the year, the river flows underground to reveal the limestone bedrock. Toilet facilities and picnic tables are available. A well-maintained dirt trail leads to a scenic point directly across from the falls. For a day hike, continue on the Green Mountain Trail. The terrain will change from grassland to heavy timber. Look for Limber Pine, Lodge Pole Pine, Douglas Fir and wildflowers galore. Deer, bear, elk, and small animals may be seen along the way.

Take 191 north out of town less than 10 miles, then take a left on Wormser Loop Rd. Enjoy the beautiful drive as you follow Big Timber Creek into the Crazy Mountains. Halfmoon Park is equipped with picnic areas, a parking area for day hikes, and public restrooms. It's a short and easy hike from the parking area to the majestic Big Timber Falls. For the hardier and more adventurous, Blue Lake is another 5.5 miles up the trail and offers beautiful surroundings and great fishing!

There are several legends as to how they got their name. One of them is that a woman (some say Indian - some say white) went mad on the prairie, possibly due to the death of her family, and took refuge in the mountains. Indian beliefs require that crazy people to be left alone, and so she was.
