Pueblo South / Colorado City KOAMeet Your Hosts![]() The Johnson family had a chance to try campground management on for size before they took the plunge and purchased the Pueblo South / Colorado City KOA in 1996. "We had helped our friends on weekends for several years at their campground," said Elena. "We decided we should have one of our own!" Owning their own campground was a dream come true. "We both come from lodging backgrounds," she said. Tim's family owned a motel / restaurant in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while Elena's grandparents owned the first motel / campground in Trinidad, Colorado. Her parents also owned two motels in Trinidad. Before becoming campground owners, Tim worked in landscape design and was a substitute teacher for the Pueblo School District. Elena was an administrative assistant for Colorado State University and the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. She also was a substitute teacher in Pueblo. Their children, Todd and Jeff, and both attending Colorado State University-Pueblo, majoring in business administration and marketing. "Our goal is to provide a fun, pleasant and relaxing experience for everyone at our campground," said Elena. "We want our guests to feel like family - not just another camper." Since purchasing the campground, the Johnsons have added a swimming pool, mini golf, fishing pond, a pavilion, stage area and new campsites. When they aren't running a campground, you'll find the family golfing, fishing or hunting, "although there isn't much time for that," Elena said. Come meet the Johnson Family. |
