Camping in Manitoba

Glance at a map of Manitoba and you’ll see water dominates: Massive Lake Winnipeg stretches 270 miles from the prairie north to the Canadian Shield. More than half of Lake Winnipeg’s fishing fleet is based in Gimli, the largest Icelandic community outside of the Land of Fire and Ice. Grand Beach Provincial Park sidles up against the east shore, fringed with white sandy beaches and dunes. But campers don’t have to go much beyond their Winnipeg campground to enjoy a waterfront vacation. The Assiniboine River flows right through the city, where it joins the Red River. Assiniboine Park, with a zoo and conservatory, sits on the banks.
