Meet Your Hosts

Open April 1 - November 20

We offer a bit of paradise! Our location combines the rustic feel of a wooded setting with the close convenience of many stores like grocery, hardware, drug, retail and even hospitals. We're within walking distance of many restaurants, from world-class eateries, steak houses, family food, pizza places and even sports bars.

Relax at this peaceful, quiet family campground, set in a tall-pine forest located just 7 miles from the University of Notre Dame and nestled between the pulsing cities of South Bend and Elkhart. Enjoy your leisure time by camping with family and friends, hang out in our beautiful heated pool or go visit the many local attractions nearby. The South Bend / Elkhart KOA is close to the College Football Hall of Fame, Studebaker National Museum, Hudson Automobile Museum, Shipshewana and Amish country, the South Bend Chocolate factory, the University of Notre Dame or RV capital of the world, RV manufacturers, RV surplus stores and the RV/Motorhome Hall of Fame.

Huge "Splash" parks, casinos and an extraordinary zoo can be found here in our surrounding areas. The South Bend / Elkhart North KOA is only a couple of hours away from Chicago, if the “big city bug” bites you. There is also a train between South Bend Airport and downtown Chicago. You'll enjoy the beauty of Northern Indiana, with many fishing places nearby. Stop to see the St. Joseph River and take a stroll along the new Riverwalk in Mishawaka. Visit the breathtaking beaches on Lake Michigan and see Mount Baldy, the biggest wandering sand dune at Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore Park.

Our campground has plenty of full hookup-pull through RV sites available, all leveled and with cable TV access. Our RV sites are spacious and long enough to fit your RV - whether you have a "Big Rig" or a small travel trailer - and most sites are shaded. All sites come with picnic tables and fire rings, and we offer free WiFi service. Our KOA features an all natural, fully fenced-in and spacious dog "Fun Run", so bring the pets!

If you don’t travel by RV, we offer spacious Lodges and cozy, comfortable 1 or 2 room cabins - all with free WiFi service. Tenters will find rustic sites or more luxury in our partially roofed Tent Village with water, electric and even cable TV access with free WiFi service. Our KOA is a convenient base for sports events, museum-hopping, golfing, canoeing and kayaking. For sporting activities, we offer Basketball, Volleyball, Miniature Golf, Tetherball, Frisbee Golf, Ping-Pong and a nature trail for hiking. Don’t miss the petting zoo either! The 2,000 square-foot enclosed pavilion is perfect for groups and reunions.

The South Bend / Elkhart North KOA is happy to host rallies, family reunions and other events. Come visit us for the famous Vintage Trailer Rally, usually held every year at the end of July. Come see us and share in all the fun!

Teamwork is what prompted Thomas Jetzer and Patricia Schenk to move from their homes in Switzerland to the United States. "We wanted to run our own company and to work in traveling or camping," said Patricia. Thomas was working as a car mechanic foreman for GM, and Patricia was the general manager at an RV rental company after the two immigrated to the United States in 2002. In 2005, they purchased the South Bend KOA and have since invested much of their lives into their business. "We are one big family," said Patricia.

According to Thomas and Patricia, the South Bend KOA proves customer service friendly, and everyone attempts to ensure a pleasant stay. "Every customer is unique and should be treated like that," added Patricia. Not only are the customers unique, the campground itself is commendable-renovations, scenery, and accommodations are what a camper would expect upon arrival. "Our beautiful cabin village, our gorgeous tall pine trees, and our remodeled store bring us the most pride," said Patricia.

True to their business, Thomas and Patricia love to camp and travel. "We have done more than 100,000 miles along the USA and have restored a 1973 GMC motor home to use it as often as possible," said Patricia.

Deposit rules for Lodges and Cabins We would like to inform our customers that we are requiring a refundable deposit of $100 if you rent one of our lodges. But therefore there is no more pet deposit required for the lodges.

A pet deposit of $50 is still required if you travel with pets and stay in one of our regular 1 or 2 room cabins.

Also cabin or lodge rentals have to be paid with credit card only; we do NOT accept any other form of payment, even cash, for cabin or lodge rentals!

Drinking water quality We think it is important for our customers to know that we are offering clean, fresh and crisp tasting drinking water to our campers. And for your health and safety our drinking water is tested every 3 months by certified labratories.

Ask the campground about the water quality before you make your reservations. It is important!

News from your favorite campground! Well, first of all, we'd like to say THANK YOU to all of our campers for their patronage. Some of you stayed 1 night, others the entire season. Some stayed in a small tent, others in a big motorhome. We hope you had fun anyway and please come and see us again in 2012.

We have some great news for you and we'd like to get started with the upgrade of our Fullhook up/back in site rom 30Amp to 50Amp sites. We rent them out for only $450/months plus electric. The perfect sites for longer stays.

Also we'd like to mention our 2 new studio lodges we've added last fall. They sleep 4 people, have full bath and half kitchen. Bring your toilettries, towels and bedding stuff everything else is provided. They're priced between $98.42 (shoulder season) and $126.42 (football wkds). Please add tax. Thirdly we offer pancakes breakfast during the month of July on weekends and Holidays for FREE!! Breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday mornings between Memorial day and Laborday!

And last but not least you can count on the same friendly and courteous staff you've met last year. Together we won the founder's and the President's award again! Thank you for rating us so good! We are very excited about the upcoming camping season and are looking forward to serving you for the first time or again and again and again!
