Meet Your Hosts

Both Walter and Karen Freeman were looking for a change when a downturned economy provided an opportunity to do something different. Love of the camping lifestyle and enjoying the outdoors, made purchasing a campground seem to be the perfect fit. "When we camped we met a lot of owners and felt this was a nice way to make a living, we liked the atmosphere that we found in the KOA's, so in 2010 they purchased the Benton KOA,” said Walter.

Walter worked for Trane Air Conditioning and Karen ran her own business as a Cosmetologist. “I always envied Karen because she was able to be her own boss and was free to work with many different people, now we both can enjoy the lifestyle” says Walter.

“The ability to meet, interact and have fun with our campers, is what it's all about! RVers are the greatest people to work with!"

They are constantly working to improve their accommodations and service offerings to keep guests returning for more and promise that you will be treated like family every time you visit.

The park is primarily an overnight campground, but the amenities for staying longer are available. "People come and stay a night or two. But we love to see people staying longer for a quick vacation or visiting relatives is always nice," added Karen. She says the area is beautiful. "We love the spring and the fall - it's relaxed and things seem restful," said Karen.

The couple loves meeting new people and they take into consideration every complaint and compliment. "Trying to break the ice with guests is fun and it gives us a chance to get to know them. Everyone puts on their best smile and truly enjoys their surroundings," said Karen. The couple knows what it is like to be on the receiving end of a campground and they stress that "things that are important to customers are important to us." Karen said making her guests feel like family is their goal. We believe in the Golden Rule and we treat our customers like family and make their stay trouble-free and enjoyable," says Walter. “A successful business is built on happy customers”

When they’re not working, you'll find Walter and Karen in a boat enjoying the water, chasing that Big Cat.
