Shop Helps Preserve Memories From Prince Edward Islandby Velma E., Emery, South Dakota
ONE of the most memorable attractions I saw on Prince Edward Island was the Prince Edward Island Preserve Company in New Glasgow. Kilt-clad owner Bruce MacNaughton greeted our group when we arrived. Through a large window inside, I watched workers make his company’s signature low-sugar fruit-laden preserves. Fortunately, test samples help you decide which ones to buy! The company also makes and sells other items, such as vinegar, syrup and barbecue sauce. I particularly liked the fragrant soaps. If you get hungry, the Cafe on the Clyde offers sandwiches and homemade ice cream. New Glasgow is on the River Clyde in north-central Prince Edward Island, where Routes 224 and 258 meet, roughly 15 miles northwest of Charlottetown. The Prince Edward Island Preserve Company is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, weather permitting, with extended hours from June through late September. The restaurant operates from mid-May through mid-October. For details, call 1-902-964-4300 or log on to www.preservecompany.com. Interested in camping nearby?
