This was my momma's recipe that I added the sausage to about 3 years ago. It's always a big hit at any cookout. Enjoy!!!
- 56 oz. can Bush's Baked Beans with brown sugar and bacon
- 1 large onion, diced or ribboned
- 1 1/4 c brown sugar
- 1/2 c ketchup
- 2 pound(s) sliced bacon
- 1 pound(s) beef summer sausage (optional)
Cut bacon strips into 1/4" or 1/2" (inch) strips, start browning in large Teflon/cast iron pot. On the stove or over coals/fire! Add diced/ribboned onions and slightly thin sliced pieces of sausage. Cook till nicely browned. (Do not drain grease) Add brown sugar. Stir lightly and let melt. Add ketchup and beans continuing to cook over medium. Let cook for about 10 minutes, watching that it doesn't boil, and then simmer for 30 minutes. Can either be served right away or saved for the next day.
