Explore the area when you visit festivals in North Georgia over the weekend or anytime during your stay. Some popular festivals that locals and visitors love include:
Spend the day tasting various wines when you go to the Hiawassee Highlands Wine Festival at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in May. Over 30 wineries participate, providing samples of their unique wines. There are also food trucks and arts and crafts vendors.
Additionally, you can spend time touring the Hamilton Rhododendron Gardens, which is located at the top of the parking area for the fairgrounds.
If you want to travel just about an hour outside Hiawassee, visit Clarkesville, Georgia, in May for the annual Mountain Laurel Festival. It is one of the oldest festivals in Clarkesville. The name pays homage to the flower that populates the region during the spring and early summer, the beautiful mountain laurel.
When you attend the festival, you can see impressive garden displays, listen to music, browse arts and crafts booths and purchase items from vendors. If you are in Hiawassee on the third Saturday in May and looking for something to do, consider the Mountain Laurel Festival.
Spend the weekend walking around over 50 arts and crafts exhibitor booths, eating delicious seafood and desserts and listening to live music when you go to the North Georgia Highlands Seafood Festival from May 31 to June 2.
The seafood festival takes place at Mayor's Park in Young Harris, Georgia. Take the 20-minute drive to the park to indulge in diverse seafood dishes, desserts and drinks.
Spend the last moments of summer experiencing a local fair when you go to the annual Georgia Mountain Fair in Hiawassee, Georgia, from August 16–24. The fair is an exciting way to experience exciting carnival rides, spend time with family or friends, see demonstrations and eat delicious food.
The fair happens at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds, which is only 15 minutes from our KOA Campground.
Country music lovers won't want to miss the big Georgia Country Music Festival in Marietta, Georgia, happening Sept. 1–3 at the North Georgia State Fair Grounds. Spend a day at the festival since the drive is about two and a half hours from the campground.
When you attend the country music festival in Georgia, you will get to hear artists big and small in the country music scene.
If you can't get enough of music and celebrating the artists and their craft, schedule some time to stop by Dailey & Vincent's American Made Music Fest. The festival occurs Sept. 19–21 at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds. The three-day festival lets you listen to your favorite songs and discover new ones from genres like bluegrass, country and gospel.
Celebrate German heritage when you and your family travel to Helen, Georgia, for Oktoberfest! You have many opportunities to experience the festivities when you visit Hiawassee in September or October. The event runs Thursday through Sunday in September, starting on Sept. 5. Then, from Sept. 26 to Oct. 27, you can enjoy Oktoberfest fun daily.
At Oktoberfest, you can enjoy live music, dance and eat authentic German foods, like spaetzle, bratwurst and goulash. Visit the Helen Chamber of Commerce building, which is only 30 minutes away from our campground, to experience Oktoberfest.
