Do you enjoy going to local and state fairs? Then you do not want to miss the Hartford Independent Fair in Hartford, Ohio! This event started in 1858, making it one of Ohio's oldest traditions.
Find out more about the fair to help you plan your trip to Ohio.
The Hartford Fair is the biggest little fair in the world, with 164 years of experience. It honors the agricultural roots of Ohio by having old farm machinery and household items on display and promoting many 4-H clubs and youth organizations.
With a long history of fun and games, the Hartford Fair continues to evolve to include new activities for guests. During the first fair in 1858, racing was among the first popular events. People would engage in foot and horse races to see who was the fastest. As the years went on, they erected buildings such as barns, an amphitheater, arenas, dormitories and more to help more guests have a greater experience. Now, fair-goers can have fun on rides, playing games, watching truck and tractor pulls and more.
The fair is also a “family reunion” because many families get together during the week to enjoy the event and reconnect. Several Board of Director positions has passed through generations, with some members taking a role after their fathers.
The Hartford Fair runs from August 7-13, 2022. The fairgrounds are open from 8 a.m.-11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday. On Wednesday and Thursday, they are open from 8 a.m.-11 p.m.
On Saturday, the last night of the fair, the fairgrounds are open from 8 a.m.-11:59 p.m.
Many activities and events happen simultaneously throughout the week at the fair. Some of the big night events happening from Sunday to Saturday include:
