There's no better place to celebrate our nation's birth than on historic Duke of Gloucester Street. Enjoy a full day of patriotic festivities, including public readings of the Declaration of Independence, musical performances, hands-on activities for the kids, and a dazzling firework display to cap the evening.
End Greater Williamsburg's race season with the Patriots Triathlon Festival, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 11–13. Right next door to Jamestown Settlement, this race features a long course, Olympic and sprint options. The swim will take place at Jamestown Beach and the bike course will be along the Route 5 Virginia Capital bike trail.
Every year on the first Sunday of November, Berkeley Plantation hosts the Virginia Thanksgiving Festival. This annual tradition dates back to 1619 when Captain John Woodlief and his crew of thirty-five men landed on the shores of the James River. Join us for a day immersed in the history of early Colonial America as we celebrate the First English Thanksgiving in the New World. Experience the re-enactment of this historic event moderated by Tim Timberlake. Fun activities for the entire family include a re-enactment of the First English Thanksgiving, Chickahominy Tribal Dancers, parade with horse drawn carriages, fife and drum, festival participants and entertainers, musicians and magicians, colonial period games, dancing and choral groups, arts & crafts, jewelry and food vendors, corn maze, storytelling, cornhusk doll making, candle dipping, and a silent auction.
We invite guests to join us as we illuminate the night sky above our beautiful colonial capital. In the 18th century, illuminations — the firing of guns and lighting of fireworks — celebrated major events such as the birthday of a reigning sovereign, military victories, or the arrival of a new colonial governor. Begin the special day by checking out the unique decorations throughout the Historic Area. Then, enjoy musical performances on multiple stages throughout our streets and fireworks displays from the Capitol, the Magazine, and the Palace.
