Best Things to Do Near Uniontown KOA

If you’re wondering what to do nearby Uniontown KOA, Fayette County offers an incredible mix of attractions, from historic forts to architectural masterpieces to towering waterfalls and more. Here are a few activities to get you going.

The Youghiogheny River Lake Recreational Area. This fun 16-mile-long lake is one of the best spots in southwestern Pennsylvania for water sports and boating. It gives the outdoor enthusiast many opportunities for hiking, fishing, boating, and swimming. The tail waters of the dam are one of the few in Pennsylvania open year round for trout fishing.

Fallingwater – fans of Frank Lloyd Wright will want to visit what is perhaps his most recognized masterpiece. A beautiful home inspired by water that culminates into an actual stunning waterfall at the bottom of the property. It made the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2019 and is located about 20 miles southeast of Uniontown KOA off of Highway 381.

Fort Necessity – As the site of the first battle in what would become known as the French and Indian War (and also the Seven Years War), it was a global struggle for empire between France and England, which were the two superpowers at the time. Fort Necessity is a beacon for those who love and appreciate the history that helped shape a nation.

Ohiopyle State Park – Pennsylvania sure loves its waterfalls, and here in this state park visitors can enjoy 10 of them, coming in all shapes and sizes. It is home to nearly 80 miles of hiking trails that will show off the best of Pennsylvania from rugged mountain paths to smooth riverside rail trails.

Laurel Caverns – enjoy Fayette County underground when you explore Pennsylvania’s largest cave. First discovered by Native Americans thousands of years ago, one big draw is Calico Falls (another waterfall!) which is underground and lends an otherworldly element to this natural attraction.

Laurel Run Overlook – just one of several exceptional scenic vistas along the Fayette County part of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. This overlook is particularly amazing during fall foliage and you’d be hard pressed to find a better spot to enjoy the changing of the colors in Pennsylvania.

Silence of the Lambs House – fans of this iconic 1991 movie starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins will want to visit the house where it was filmed. Located near Perryopolis, a big thanks to art director and prop stylist Chris Rowan, who purchased the property in 2020, and has now made it into a destination “boutique accommodation.”

Gene and Boots Chocolate Factory – this is a 3rd-generation family business located in Perryopolis (and 3 other locations). They specialize in homemade chocolates along with 20 varieties of homemade hard ice cream.

Great Passage Falls – located along the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile trail stretching from Cumberland, Maryland to Pittsburgh, this waterfall is somewhat seasonal and just a few miles south of Connellsville. But it is by far the most impressive of the many waterfalls you’ll find along the route. Come during the spring months when the waterfall is at its best, gushing water 12-15 feet into an unnamed creek below.
