RV Reviews

The Resort was very good, the only problem we had was the restaurants and stores were either closed or closed early. At check in we were told we could get pizza at the restaurant until 8PM, we went there at 4:30PM and all they were serving was ice cream and said they were getting ready to close for the season. No coffee or wine was available at the wine/coffee shop either.

Easy to register, lots of amenities and beautiful surroundings. A perfect location for exploring Mount Rushmore.

We were very comfortable!

Very nice campground conveniently located to Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park plus the towns of Hill City and Custer. The only disappointment was that lots of options like the Peak Grill, swimming pools, hot tubs, horseback rides, etc. were closed for the season after Labor Day.

Great location

The WiFi at most areas in the park stinks! Don't claim to have WiFi when it only works in a few spots. I joined KOA but I have been disappointed so far. KOA's charge too much for what you get. We have no use for the playground equipment and pool but we pay for it. I doubt I will book any more KOA sites as we have found much better accommodations for less money in non-chain RV sites.

No shade, terrible internet and most of the amenities were closed 9/4

Nice facility, everything was shut down for the season, appears to be a great place for families. Disappointed that our site lock was canceled without our knowledge, after confirming it was still available when I changed dates

Loved it and we were there in the off season. Already planning a trip during the peak season

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The campground offers so many activities. The best part was being right around the corner from Mount Rushmore.

I was disappointed that most everything was closed. You have 3 laundry facilities and only one open, the park was fairly full. The one that was open was a mess 2 days in a row and busy. At check in the gentleman was nice but not very informative, about garbage, Wi-Fi etc. The escort was nice. The sites are small, very little space to park our truck, our TT is only 26’

They talk about the amenities and state several are closed after Labor Day. We chose the location because it had a restaurant and coffee shop and no where on the site did they say they were closed. Because we didn’t have a separate car to go find a place to eat, we were out of luck. Staff didn’t seem to care especially the gal with the nose ring and tattoos. No cell service and no cable TV

our stay was very nice. would have been a bit better if we were parked a bit closer to the restrooms
Sep 23, 2023
Close to Mt Rushmore with all the amenities you could ask for, this was a great place to stay for us. Next time we'll try to get here before Labor Day as there was so many opportunities shut down for the season.

Restrooms could be cleaner

Arrived after Labor Day and most of the amenities were closed, including the restaurant. Showers could you a face lift at this facility. Paper towels would be appreciated in the bathrooms.
Sep 22, 2023
The campsites small
Sep 22, 2023
Most everything was close, no restaurant, no shopping, no stores paid full price for 1/2 the park

Very disappointed in this "resort". Sites are small and cramped. Power fluctuations killed our 50amp surge suppressor. Only the Tap Room was open when we arrived Sat, Sep 16, yet charged full price that night.
Sep 22, 2023
Our site was dirt that turned to mud with little rain. Site had bits of trash all over and was extremely small even for our Sprinter Van. We were not informed ahead of time that all of the facilities at the campground were closed after Labor Day. Price did not equal the value.

We were there for 2 nights mid September, so the park was quieter and many amenities were closed. They were grading the roadways which was a positive. The distance to Black Mountains and Mt Rushmore are very easy rides.

Great facilities! The front desk staff was fantastic when I checked in for my RV site!!! Couldn't ask for better customer service.

Great facility. Laundry and bathrooms very clean and accessible.

We had a great time! I doubt we would come during the summer season as it looks like it would be too busy for us! But in September it was wonderful!

We spent 5 nights and went out and saw all the local attractions. Great location. Lots of amenities. We stayed after Labor day, soooo nothing was available for us to do. If you go between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It would probably be awesome, especially if you have kids.

Have stayed here 3 times prior, never this late in the season. Restaurant closed that weekend (we arrived on Friday and it closed on Saturday), the smaller shops closed already. Internet and cable limited (our spot did not have access to cable). The grounds are close to Mt. Rushmore: the times before there was a shuttle and this time none. Store on grounds was well stocked with items.

Staff friendly and very helpful when we unexpectedly had to extend our stay. Convenient to surrounding attractions.

This is our favorite KOA campground by far! Beautifully maintained campground with beautiful surroundings. So many fun activities and Polkapalooza 2023 was awesome!

Friendly staff. Very Clean. Very busy. A lot of activities for entire family. Good location for visiting sites in and around Mt. Rushmore.

I appreciate all the help they gave me. That would want to stay there again if I had a chance.

We loved the place! 2 suggestions, however. 1) Improve the Wi-Fi. It was awful:( 2) We were with a group in sites around 380. We heard and saw employees driving by our site in trucks, UTVs, front end loaders and other vehicles all day long and into the evening. Don't get me wrong, service was excellent, but isn't there another route they could take so as not to be so disruptive to campsites?

We visited mid-September and much of the campground was already closed for the season (even though we were told this location doesn't close until 10/1). However, despite the fact that many of the amenities were already unavailable to us, the staff, especially August at the Registration Desk made our stay enjoyable. August was friendly, and patient answering all of our questions.

This KOA is one of the largest we have seen and the proximity to Mt. Rushmore couldn't be much better. Our stay was unfortunately not very enjoyable. The site we were assigned was very small and we were crammed into a small area with many other RVs. The rains left potholes full of water and mud right where we had to part our truck. Next time we will check out other local RV parks.

Fabulous environment wonderful employees. We are in a 36 ft RV. Our site was wonderful everything was clean the restaurant staff was so polite and helpful. One of the best KOA simply beautiful we have 2 pups the walking area was fabulous

To sum it up….the Wi-Fi was completely useless unless standing nest to the antenna. Wii is important in an area that has no cellphone device.

Great park with tons of amenities especially if traveling with children.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.

This campground is awesome for everyone. We have been coming here for 5 years now at least one time year usually in August. We have 4 kids from age 5 to 15 and they all love it here. It has 2 pools playgrounds volleyball horseback riding utv rentals bike rentals restaurants ice cream shop small store for groceries and camping stuff wine shop and the kids love to play with all the other kids there. We don't have a camper so we stay in the cabins and they work great for the 6 of us. They have multiple bathrooms and shower house throughout the grounds to use and a laundry mat there. We never had any problems staying here and will keep coming back every year. There is a lot of things to do within an hour drive also. I would definitely recommend this place for people with kids of all ages.
