Nice as usual. The ongoing improvements (concrete slabs) nice augmentation to an already lovely venue. Note: please do put some kind of stop at the end of your riverside concrete slabs: it would be TOO easy for an RV to back too far and tumble into the river!

I feel three stars as appropriate. The grounds were muddy it was under construction. The ladies in the office were really nice and accommodating. There was many additional charges. When I did the reservation online I put two adults one child nine years old and upon arrival I paid the remaining balance and realized that they added an extra charge for my child that was not in the original quote.

Absolutely beautiful setting along the river with a patio set up and a fire pit to boot. Remarkably clean and fresh. We enjoyed our stay immensely! A real hidden gem! We'll be back.

The bathrooms are super clean and updated. The staff is super nice and helpful. It is near the hot springs pool across the street which makes it uber convenient. The only gripe I have is that the train across the highway that comes by during the night. It woke me up whenever it came through town.

We have been staying twice a year for past 5 years. We really enjoy the facility but the prices have raised this year to the poin that it will probably be our last.

It was still winter so all we had was electricity. But that was fine, the facilities there are nice and clean. Close proximity to all the Hot Pools within walking distance.

The ladies at the front desk were very helpful and because it is in the middle of the winter expectations need to be adjusted accordingly. My only complaint is that this is the FIRST KOA to charge for dogs. To me that is nothing more than a money grab as I get the why motels and hotels charge more but a KOA come-on. Sorry but this policy has lost us as a future customer.

Fabulous RV Park and exceptionally clean bathrooms. Conveniently located near hot pools and restaurants and shopping. Can't wait to go back!

First time at this great location and facility. Lots of space and right next to the river. You can even have a wood burning fire in the nice supplied fire pits - unlike at the Palm Springs/Joshua Tree where wood fires are PROHIBITED! Great town with some nice restaurants and hot springs. The only downside is the noise from the adjacent HWY 30 and train tracks, but still worth the stay.

I stayed in a Comfort Cabin for two nights and a RV site for one night; both are great! The cabins are cozy and warm, very relaxing. The RV site was next to the river and very peaceful in a whole other way. I have stayed at this KOA three times this year! I return again and again. Thank you!

Well being the last trip for the year and the KOA being the only one open I had to try it, let me tell you I have 0 regrets and have found our new favorite camp ground. definitely planning more trips at this location. Well worth every penny.

We had a wonderful stay with a great site right alongside the Portneuf River. Caitlyn in the Office provided outstanding support, even before we arrived, and throughout our stay. We highly recommend the West Campground in Lava Hot Springs. Great location right in town.

We came out for the weekend in our new trailer just to rest things out. It was a great time. Very helpful office staff and everything was clean and well taken care of.

This site fails to manage guests with pets. Our small dog, on a leash, was attacked by another, very aggressive small dog, that was loose at a neighbors camp site. While trying to keep the other dog away I was bitten on my hand. In a properly managed site, that would never happen.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

All dogs are required to be on leashes. Situations like this are not tolerated. We are looking into this and will be following up on the incident. Please file a report with the office.

Great place! So close to be able to walk into your quaint little town and walk around. Very clean camp sites. Staff was very friendly!! We hope to come and stay again!

Pull through for larger units quite good. Service was very good. Washrooms clean. Within walking distance of state mineral pools. We would stay again.

Overall very good with a great location where you can walk right into town and access restaurants, shops, grocery store and even an auto repair shop. Only reason for 4 stars is the tight space with our slide barely clearing the pedestal.

I would have rated a 5 but the WIFI was down the whole time there. This is a beautiful campground and a great staff. The showers and restrooms are some of the best around. Even with the WIFI issue I will stay again.

Clean and organized Koa. Staff is friendly and helpful! Little store has everything you need and the grocery store next door makes it a great location. Enjoyed spot #70 with the patio and firebowl. The bathrooms were clean. We paid for premium WiFi, but it never seemed to work for us so that was a bummer, but not a biggie! The trains all night long makes for a very noisy night and the rooftop eek!

It was a very nice spot by the river only problem was the train went by about 3:00am blowing its horn not only then but again about 6:00am.

Lovely campground with shade trees, streams and rivers. Bathroom shower was a little awkward with no real space to put your change of clothes and keep it dry, and the constant train horns from the nearby crossing made solid sleep difficult. Walking distance to all town stores and most importantly the hot springs are just a short stroll away.

I know you can't control the weather. But the spots were really muddy. More gravel or possibly more cement for where we park the RV’s. That would really help. The staff was amazing. Very nice and accommodating. We will probably stay here again or use the KOA East.

Nice location. Right next door to the Lava Hot Springs swimming pool facility. Everything in Lava is within walking distance of Lava West KOA. Many of the camp sites are very nice, but a few, including ours, has neither grass or gravel, but instead was just dirt. Water and sewer hookups are very basic. Electrical was up to date. For the price, the site should have been nicer.

Great place to stay if you are visiting the hot springs. Pools and Waterpark just across the street. Easy walking to any if the great shops in town. Back-in sites alo g the river are great. Owners take pride in the campsites and property. Clean showers and laundry. Beautiful cabins!

Very cool location next to the rumbling River. Has a barbecue on the back porch and a natural gas fire pit as well. The rooms were clean. If you visit lava Springs you must check out the Mercantile store on Main Street they have really cool handmade items. Found a good little coffee shop and pretty much everything is walking distance. The pools were busy however we visited on New Year's Eve and there were fewer people at the pools in the a.m. will definitely do it again.
