There are plenty of waterfalls near the roadside in Tennessee and North Carolina. One just outside of Maggie Valley, NC, is Soco Falls.
Another one is located in Newland, NC, about an hour from Jonesborough KOA. It is in Waterfall Park, which is a nicely maintained area that is a perfect spot for a picnic.
There are two roadside waterfalls not too far away from the Jonesborough/Cherokee NF KOA. These are located on US HWY 19. Lower Spivey Falls can easily be seen from the road; however, it is located on private property, so please be respectful. Big Creek Falls is 4.2 miles from the North Carolina border. There is a pull-off after a concrete bridge. After a steep climb down a short roadside trail(0.1 miles), you'll be rewarded with an unobstructed view of a beautiful waterfall.
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
