Local Area Attractions Near Corpus Christi KOA Journey

With over 113 miles of Gulf Coast beaches and bay, the Corpus Christi area (including Padre Island and Mustang Island) is well known for surf and fun. Water activities range from building sand castles and fishing to extreme water sports. A few miles away in Alice, Texas, La Copita Ranch and Nature Trails offers bunkhouses for rent and miles of hiking trails, with new wildlife blinds and birding stations. Night sky observation points focus attention upward to the stars.Back in Corpus, you can take a behind the scenes tour of The Texas State Aquarium, and even be a dolphin trainer for a day. Wind Surfing

Wind Surfing

Windsurfing is a surface water sport that combines elements of surfing and sailing. Windsurfing straddles both the laid-back culture of surfing and the more rules-based environment of sailing. Windsurfers can perform 50 foot high jumps, 360 aerial loops, aerial wave riding moves in the waves, as well ads other "freestyle" moves in flat-water sailing conditions. Windsurfers were the first to ride the world's largest waves, such as Jaws on the island of Maui, and, with very few exceptions, it was not until the advent of tow-in surfing that waves of that size became accessible to surfers on more traditional surfboards. Extreme waves aside, many expert windsurfers will ride the same waves as surfers do.
