National Plan for Vacation Day-Recommendation: "Don't Wait!”

(January 23, 2022) After two years of living through the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans are feeling burned out and ready for a change of scenery.  While some sectors in the travel and leisure industry continue to be hard hit, the outdoor hospitality industry has experienced a historic surge in interest.

The U.S. Travel Association is celebrating “National Plan for Vacation Day,” on Tuesday, January 25, urging Americans to set a plan to use the benefits of taking some well-deserved time off.  This comes at a point where typically only one-quarter of Americans use all of their vacation, despite a recognition of the physical and mental health benefits of maintaining a healthy work/life balance.

Kampgrounds of America (KOA), the largest network of independently owned and operated campground in north America, recently announced that as it enters its 60th year in business, it celebrated another record year. At the end of 2021, it reports impressive growth of more than 33% in registration income, 15% in camper nights, and 51% in advance deposits over 2020.

Mark Lemoine, owner of Fifth Level Hospitality, which owns and operates the Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday states, “It is our privilege to help guests leave the pressures and stress of work behind as we fulfill our mission to help people connect with the outdoors and each other.  Planning and reserving a camping trip not only guarantees that experience, but gives you the immediate cathartic benefit of having something fun to which you can look forward.”  He adds, “If you’re thinking about reserving a camping trip this year, my advice is ‘Don’t Wait’ else you may be unable to find a site.”

The Coloma/St. Joseph KOA Holiday has been recognized locally as having made numerous improvements in their park over than past six years, including most recently adding five new deluxe cabins to their offerings.  They too have experienced historical growth and shares that even now, their reservations are filling up for upcoming holidays and summer weekends.
