Beach driving season in a national park at the North Carolina Outer Banks is seasonal and starts in March.  Off-road driving is allowed year-round at Cape Hatteras National Seashore but there are limits at Cape Lookout National Seashore. A permit is required and more information can be found at the National Park Service website.

The Eastern Surfing Association (ESA) offers four championship events each year. Three regionals are held in the spring in which competitors compete to qualify for the Easterns® that is held each September in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. All local and championship ESA events include people of all ages and are family-friendly. Approximately 200 competitors from each region compete in their respective ESA Regional event every spring. The Mid-Atlantic Region is comprised of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Automobile enthusiasts can meet and greet with fellow aficionados while exploring some of the most stunning coastlines that North Carolina has to offer at this two-day festival that features a wide array of ways to have fun. The OBX Rod And Custom Festival is a special celebration of vintage and antique cars that will boast a host of family-friendly activities, from local food, to cruise-ins, to displays that will impress car fans of all tastes and ages.

The opening event of the NC Billfish Series, the Hatteras Village Offshore Open is now in its second decade. Proceeds from the tournament support the Hatteras Village Civic Association in their mission to continue providing scholarships to college bound village residents as well as supporting charitable causes within the community. Come and experience the world class fishing and local hospitality in Hatteras Village all while supporting a great cause.

Join professional hang gliders, fans, and families for this Kitty Hawk Flight School tradition. The Hang Gliding Spectacular is the longest-running hang gliding competition in the world! They are excited to be celebrating the 50th consecutive year of this event and have many fun activities planned – a retro glider display, video and photo exhibit, and more!Kitty Hawk Kites invites pilots from all over the country to come fly with us for this four-day event at Jockey's Ridge State Park in Nags Head, NC, and the Cotton Gin in Jarvisburg, NC (see full schedule below).
