The Perseid meteor shower is one of the best that you can observe. It produces up to 60 meteors per hour at its peak. Discovered in 1862, it was produced by the comet Swift-Tuttle. Perseid is most famous for producing a large number of bright meteors. The shower can be seen from July 17 to August 24 and runs annually.
This year it peaks on the night of August 12 and the morning of August 13. A thin crescent moon will set early in the evening and leave the sky dark for what promises to be an excellent display. The meteors will radiate from the constellation Perseus and can appear anywhere in the sky. For best viewing, you will want to be in a dark location after midnight. Perfect from our campground!
There's nothing quite like fall weather in the canyon and there's nothing quite like participating in a marathon that is along one of the most scenic highways in the world. Combine the two and you get a little slice of bliss.
