Cripple Creek / Colorado Springs W. KOA

Meet Your Hosts

The Bachman Family

For Cripple Creek KOA, it is not only the destination that makes it special, it is also the journey. At 10,000 feet, the campground lies beneath Trachyte Knob, and, as Max and Jane Bachman say, "The setting makes people want to come back."

Max and Jane built the KOA in 1992 and have enjoyed the beauty of the campground and the people that visit. After leaving corporate America, the couple purchased 35 acres near Pike's Peak and began their new lives in the small town of Cripple Creek. They are proud of the friendly atmosphere the campground radiates, the facilities are fairly new, and the activities they offer make a visitor's stay all the more enjoyable. "It's a really friendly place," said Jane, "When you come here, the people on the campground try to be fun and helpful."

Both Cripple Creek and its neighboring town, Victor, are recognized for their gold mining, and campers can visit the mines and spend the day learning the history of the towns.

Max and Jane own two KOA campgrounds, and they commute between them. They try to run their businesses with pride and provide all customers with respect. According to Max and Jane, the beauty of the campground is unsurpassable, and their campground is a must-see. "Our campground is a destination park. You have to want to get there because it is not on the way to anything. It is one of three parks that are up in the mountains and are worth visiting," added Jane.
