Straddling the Santa Fe Trail, this High Plains campground lies just minutes from Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site. Costumed interpreters welcome you to the reconstructed adobe-walled trading post, once a gathering place for adventurers, explorers and Arapaho warriors. In La Junta, the Koshare Indian Museum houses one of the world's most varied collections of Native American art and artifacts, as well as hosting Indian dances many summer evenings. A half hour south, Picketwire Canyon features the largest known trackway of dinosaur footprints in North America. It's located just 30 minutes from John Martin Reservoir, which has great fishing. Back at KOA, pick up some Wild West souvenirs and Christmas collectibles from around the world at the campground store. Cool off in the swimming pool and relax in the rec room, where you can read, watch TV or play pool, cards and games.
