Santa Margarita KOA is NOT affiliated with Santa Margarita Lake. We are a half mile before the lake where you can hike, fish & boat for a fee but NOT swim. Walk or bike in FREE; but it is $10/vehicle. You can ask for a 15-min. Free Pass to check it out. The lake is at 11% capacity as of July 2016 & boats must be hand-launched. The marina rents kayaks, fishing boats & pontoon boats. Mention KOA for a discount!
Have you ever felt the excitement of watching your bobber jiggle, then dive out of sight? Or felt the tap-tap-tap of a bass as it nibbles the worm on your line? What's that? You never learned to fish? If you are new to fishing, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) offers two Free Fishing Days each year when you can fish without a fishing license. This is a great, low-cost way to give fishing a try. FREE FISHING IN 2016: July 2 and Sept. 7. For other dates, get your sport fishing license on-line at www.dfg.ca.gov. Bait for bass, crappie, bluegill, catfish & trout.

Visit the world famous Pismo Beach Dunes in Oceano...just 30 miles south of Santa Margarita on US101! Vehicles are allowed on portions of the beach. Rent a 4-wheeler or dune buggy and drive over the dunes yourself. If you are a thrill seeker, this is the place for you OR if you would rather sit and relax, you can enjoy the lovely California sun and beach.
