Our campers enjoy the convenience of heading into the Black Hills from the campground.
It was 1993, and Carla Jacobsen had just started a job as a front desk clerk at the Mt. Rushmore KOA. Fast-forward more than 15 years, and she is now the manager of the Rapid City KOA, one of the oldest and most established KOA campgrounds in North America. But while Mt. Rushmore and Rapid City are within a stone's throw of one another, Carla traveled a long road between the two.
"I stayed at Mt. Rushmore KOA for 8 years," she said, "eventually becoming supervisor. But then I went on to work at many other campgrounds owned by Recreational Adventures Co, including the Capitol KOA in Maryland, Newburgh KOA in New York, Pine Island KOA in Florida, the Harpers Ferry KOA in West Virginia, Front Royal KOA in Virginia and Seattle KOA in Washington."
And although some folks might not like staying on the go, it was the perfect lifestyle for Carla. She is an avid tent camper who enjoys visiting National Parks, hiking and scrapbooking her many adventures.
That doesn't mean this area has to always be empty. When you start reviewing camping options, your history will display here to help compare sites and find the best stay. You will be able to share your stay information with friends or family and save it for a later time if you have a KOA Account.
