Meet Your Hosts
Wendy Woodman, manager of the Okeechobee KOA Kampground, works with the staff to "make sure guests feel welcome and know we are 'expecting' them. I want my guests to feel like they are "coming home" to a friendly and safe environment."
Wendy has the experience to know what her guests want. She and her husband Lee owned and operated a specialty food service business in a Southern California ski resort town until 1996, when they retired to pursue a dream of seeing the country in an RV. "As fulltime RVers, our love of the lifestyle and the people we met on the road were the catalysts that persuaded us to pursue opportunities in the camping and hospitality industry as a post-retirement career," says Wendy.
Since 2003, Okeechobee KOA has consistently been honored with the KOA President's Award and every year since 2008 the campground also received a KOA Founder's Award KOA's top honor.
Wendy was recognized as the 2005 KOA Company-Owned Property Manager of the Year, but shares the achievement with her team. "I am especially proud of my staff. They work very hard, take pride in their work and make our guests feel special by providing great customer service."
"We have very special guests and employees who embrace the fundraising efforts of KOA for KOA Care Camps, which provide special summer camps for kids with cancer. The support from our local community patrons, seasonal guests and staff has consistently placed us as top achievers in this fundraising drive. 'People working together for a great cause' doesn't get better than here at Okeechobee KOA," says Wendy.
While Lee is enjoying the retirement lifestyle, Wendy continues to manage this top rated resort. On her days off they both enjoy exploring the back roads of Florida on their Gold Wing motorcycle.
