The Kelsey Family

Our family is looking forward to making memories with your family, join us today for a GREAT Time!

Windy Acres was the brainchild of Merrill Witherell, who opened the first phase of the campground around 1970. It consisted of about 30 campsites, an open pavilion and bathrooms. In 1985, he completed a major expansion of the campground increasing the campground to 137 sites with 20 amp power and water hookups. A safari field, made by converting a former apple orchard for group camping, was also added. He also added a bathroom building in the middle of the campground and another pavilion with bathrooms in the upper portion of the park. In 1990, he sold the campground to Fran & Nancy McClure, who, with their children, brought new life to the campground. Over the next 12 years, they upgraded some of the park to 30 amp power, added daily activities, bingo, and other activities found in the resort-style campgrounds of the 90's. In April 2002, the campground was purchased by The Kelsey Family, who immediately began adding their touch to the campground. Over the next six years, they added two swimming pools, playgrounds, a game room, camp store, and a laundry area. Major upgrades to the infrastructure of the campground also took place. The whole electrical system was upgraded to handle today's modern RV's, as well as the safari group area was upgraded with 30 amp and 50 amp sites. A commercial kitchen and snack bar was added to the upper pavilion. In the fall of 2008, we were approved as a KOA Franchise and opened as the Northampton/Springfield KOA in the spring of 2009. The bathrooms were renovated with tile floors, new fixtures and FREE hot showers. In 2010, we added our first Deluxe Cabins and began a major renovation to the front area of the campground. 2011 saw the completion of our new 70 foot pull through full hookup sites, as well as upgrading 20 more back in sites to Full Hookup Sites. More Deluxe Cabins were added. In 2012, we added cable TV to most of the sites, as well as improved our appearance. In 2015, a handful of water and electric sites were renovated and upgraded into our Deluxe Pull thru sites that are over 90 feet long and all Big Rig friendly. 2017 was the year that our second oldest son, Michael, moved from Phoenix, Arizona, where he was running the front desk of a beautiful Marriott Resort. With joining the family business, he brought the next generation into the family tradition! He brought in some great new changes around the park, to our social media, and overall marketing. He was always willing to chat with campers and get their feedback on what should be improved next. 2018 brought the introduction of our Deluxe Pet Friendly sites! They offer some great amenities, like chairs and swings on the sites, but most importantly is the 10 X 10 on site, off leash, dog area for the furry friends that join us for the family camping trip. Also added during the 2018 season was the mining sluice and updates to a handful of tent sites. In 2022 Brian (one of our other sons) and Amber (his wife) took the reins and began putting their own touches on the campground giving buildings makeovers and adding more upgrades to sites!  Make a reservation today and stop by to meet the Kelsey's and become part of this exciting KOA's future family traditions.
