Site was kind of short, nice park though, my biggest gripe was noise late at night, they did not seem to enforce quiet hours, one night after midnight somebody was riding an atv which broke down and they spent an hour messing with it noisily, the next night teenagers were screaming and yelling for 45 minutes at 2:30 am. The resort itself was great other than short tight sites.

Relaxing and quiet, great amenities for families with kids or just for a couple wanting to get away in a beautiful surrounding. Highly recommend it!

Our first time as a family at Palmer Gulch and our experience was excellent. Facilities are great for both children and adults with a variety of activities to keep us both busy.

One of the best

Huge KOA! Has literally everything! Could be a destination in itself. Will be back!

The campground is fabulous! However, WiFi was not good. So many times a campground advertises WiFi but don’t deliver. With the advances in technology, there is really no excuse for not delivering.

Loved the Rodeo!

The entire stay was amazing for our first-time camping. Staff and resort were both excellent. Great location as well.

This is our favorite koa. And because of the new pool I think it’s now the best koa anywhere.

I think the staff at KOA (Palmer Gulch) did a great job if we ever get over that way again we sure will stay at a KOA (Palmer Gulch) only downfall, which is not no big deal was the Internet was kind of iffy but other than that great four days

Stayed for a week. Great campground! Has everything. Horseback riding, pool, slide, bouncy pillow thing. utv rentals. Miles of trails surrounding property. Plenty to see and do at the campground and in the area. Kids didn’t want to leave. Definitely will return.

Sites were pretty flat but some were tiny. Only complaint is the sewer pipe on our full hookup site was too high. We had to empty our black tank on our way out which defeats the purpose of the full hook up. We rented a UTV to tour Needles highway - that was worth every penny! The campground hot tub was also nice after a day of hiking. On-site laundry was nice too!

Nice place for kids.

Very accommodating. Campground was quiet at night, shower house was kept clean, friendly staff. Our kids had fun swimming and did about 18 rounds, if not more, of mini golf. Horses nearby, BONUS. The drive to attractions near us was minimal. Definitely recommend.

So much fun. My grandchildren had a blast. We will do this every year.

made great memories for the family and more than enough activities for the kiddos

Great place to stay. So many things to do and see.

The best KOA we have encountered so far!

The newer pool was making our kids skin really itchy (too much chlorine??) But otherwise we loved our stay in this beautiful location. Staff was always around but also always left us alone. Seemed like a very safe, clean place for a family. We will be back!

Overall it was a good stay. Just a couple of issues. First of all, the sites are very close to each other with little room to back into the site. Secondly there were kids everywhere, which would be fine if the parents watched them instead of turning them loose to dart in front of your vehicle when you’re trying to park your RV. Also KIA does not enforce some of their rules.

1st time staying at a KOA. Absolutely fantastic

The cabin was very comfortable but we could have used a pitcher. Cellphone service was nonexistent. What do people do if there is an emergency? I needed cereal for the morning and all that was in the store was Raisen Bran. But people were friendly and the campground is clean and well kept. It is certainly a very convenient location for a visit to the Black Hills.

Fantastic campground. Pool and playgrounds were clean and well kept and the private bathrooms / showers were a huge upgrade from out tiny little camper shower. Loved that our site was directly next to comfort station #1 because it made our week long stay more comfortable. The kids LOVED the gaga ball pit. There were there every night. Staff was friendly and helpful.

What a fun place to stay. You never run out if things to do!

Lots to do at the park. Restroom facilities are new and very clean. Wi-Fi could use some band with. Due to there location could not pick up and air channels and had no cable access. Site were level

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Complaints: no direct path to the bathroom from our site. There’s no walking path connecting the outer roads to the middle where the bathroom is, which would have been REALLY nice in the middle of the night. Also, the horse smell was STRONG at times. And our site was backwards, with the table/fire on the back side of our camper. (Site 19)

there is a lot of things for kids to do and keep busy with.the spaces to put big campers in were small and crowded.not mutch room for long campers, getting in and out of there sites.over all it is a good camp ground but expensive.

Great location. Restaurant on site was very good and reasonably priced

What a great place to base our travels to Mount Rushmore, Needles Highway, Iron Mountain, Custer State Park, Hill City, Deadwood and the Badlands. Everything was great from RV sites with great views, food, amenities, and activities. We'll be back!

Beautiful rv park. Great views of the mountains and close to attractions.

We love Palmer Gulch and this year arranged to meet family here because we loved it so much 3 years ago. Would definitely recommend!!

Great KOA. Be aware… sites are VERY tight. Our mirror was broken off when someone was trying to pull in. However, this is by far one of the best KOA’s in the country. Their staff is wonderful… shout out to Steven who helped us find a longer site and helped us park.

First time camper, from the minute we pulled in they were so helpful getting the RV connected. Everything was extremely clean. Pool and hot tub was great! Played pickle ball too! Loved every minute!!

Great resort overall but the facilities could use a deep clean and some repairs. Bathroom and shower facilities were not cleaned daily and with the amount of people they pack in they should be cleaned at minimum twice daily. Laundry room was not clean at all and piles of discarded laundry were in the table from arrival to departure almost a week later. Lots to do and close to attractions.

Clean bath area…well informed and polite staff who were always happy to assist!
Aug 25, 2023
very clean and the staff was GREAT!

Our site was not levelled not gravelled and very close to site 20.

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.

This campground is awesome for everyone. We have been coming here for 5 years now at least one time year usually in August. We have 4 kids from age 5 to 15 and they all love it here. It has 2 pools playgrounds volleyball horseback riding utv rentals bike rentals restaurants ice cream shop small store for groceries and camping stuff wine shop and the kids love to play with all the other kids there. We don't have a camper so we stay in the cabins and they work great for the 6 of us. They have multiple bathrooms and shower house throughout the grounds to use and a laundry mat there. We never had any problems staying here and will keep coming back every year. There is a lot of things to do within an hour drive also. I would definitely recommend this place for people with kids of all ages.
