Campground Reviews

Your service is horrible, the site we stayed in was so ghetto. The site we were originally assigned was too small and had the picnic table on top of someone’s poop hose. The next site was equally awful. Not to mention noisy and dirty and overcrowded.

Excellent, as always. Campgrounds is clean, well organized, full of activities with fun schedules. The only complaint w head was the noise coming from the atv rental washing station. We were on site 165. The noise from water pressure was almost constant. Otherwise, we had a great time.

Too crowded. Too many people, it is like a carnival cruise. Golf carts are everywhere. People walk and park.in the street. If you burp your neighbor not only hears it but smells it..

Extremely accommodating and friendly staff. Kids love all the activities. Will definitely be back.

The campground needs to in-force their own rules. We were next to tent spots. In comes 80 plus people in a group into four spots. There were so many cars that they blocked the road and the use of the playground. These people rented three golf carts that never stopped going up and down the road. It went on well past midnight. The security personnel were nice but didn’t seem to do anything.

Loved the facility and amenities. Would recommend a walk path for people to get to bathhouse as they kept walking through our site. This was the only negative we had.
Jul 09, 2023
The camping was great. The pools where good and the kids lived all the activities. The horseback riding was an added bonus.

Amenities are very good and it’s convenient to Mount Rushmore. If a small disagreement happens between guests you’re on your own. Staff will not help when needed

Best KOA in the country! Great food, amenities and service the horse ride to the Chuck wagon dinner was awesome!!

Absolutely an awesome stay! Highly recommend it and we hope to be there again within the next 2 years

Amenities were great, loved all the extras available. Campsites, bathrooms, and everything were kept clean. We did not enjoy the fact campers were so packed in, people were everywhere like sardines. And people were very loud well past the 10 pm "quiet hours". It was great for the kids (our campsite had a playground right behind it! Loved that!) But it just might not be right for us.

It was nice, definitely coming back.

Nice. Lots of activities to do. Meals on site good. Bathrooms (#4) leave a lot to be desired. Too small, no place to set personal hygiene kit, communal style with no privacy, etc. time for an upgrade. RV sites not level, no dump station on site. Spotty to no cell service. No cable or local tv reception (I know I’m camping, think storms activity planning, etc.).
Jul 09, 2023
The campground was too crowded. Each camp site is too close the other camp sites.

Wi-Fi DOES NOT WORK @ RV While the grounds are beautifully kept, with many activity options, in today's technology-forward living, having Wi-Fi is a must. Other than teens & adults going thru wi-fi withdrawal, our stay was pleasant. Might I suggest updating waste pipe fittings at rv sites. No ability to secure the hose fitting = MESS Wi-Fi is free = Zero ability to connect any device in a rv.

Enjoyed our stay over the 4th of July weekend. Pool was clean and water temp perfect. Slide fun but water cold. Lots of activities for kids put on by staff. Had a great trail ride and chuckwagon dinner. Choose RV sites carefully. Hit or miss Wi-Fi. Sites 110-199 more modern. 500-509 in a quieter spot with working WiFi. Staff were courteous in person, but reaching someone by phone was difficult.

The resort is amazing and I have recommended it to people. There are so many activities for the kids and adults. It was great! My only complaint was when we arrived, the former tenant of our site had left 3 bags of trash to be picked up. It was not picked up by staff and I had to take it to the dumpster myself. Additionally, the previous camper had left dog poop on the site. It was not picked up.

Great for kids, lots to do. Well run, very clean.

Wonderful KOA. Best view and lots of activities for the kids. They thought of everything to offer campers for the best stay.

I have stayed there alot in the years and this time I have to say was one of the worse the girls restrooms where so dirty and that has never been the case before there was used toilet paper all over the floor and blood on the stall that had no toilet set on it even another lady said this was the worst koa she has ever been in and I told her that this was the first time it is bad normally they are

Location was great. Very close to Mt. Rushmore, and surrounding area. The campground was clean and staff was very helpful. The site was a bit tight for a 45 foot motor home, but it worked. We did not like that the cell service, and internet were very poor. Would not recommend if those things are needed.

Friendly staff. Very clean laundry room.

It was absolutely AMAZING. so much to do and you literally never have to leave. There is something for everyone. The only bad thing I'd say is, the sites are not very big and not easy to get in to. I saw several people have to find new sites. Id definitely go back. Me and my family loved it!!!
Jul 07, 2023
Very clean, very organized, well maintained, and lots to do. “Earnie” was very helpful escorting us to our site (in a driving rain).
Jul 07, 2023
So many things to do for kids and adults at this site. Horse back riding, ATV, pool, water slide, multiple gift shops. Only negative is cell service is like being in a black hole, but you can get Wi-Fi at the gift shops so either bring your own hotspot or go back to the last century with cell service.

Great private site near the horse trail. Could improve by having paths to the shower houses as it was a long walk all the way around to avoid cutting through other's sites. Ice cream machine broke!

Very clean koa. Great activities for the family

The bathrooms were horrendous. Cracks in the shower floors, black mold on tile and curtains, oversized curtains that took up half the small shower with excess fabric, shower heads free moving in wall, water deeply pooled on floor outside of shower basin. Bathrooms were perpetually smelly, trash can disgusting on the outside from not being wiped, toilets left with fecal mater on outside of them.

$100/night to be crammed into a tiny dog crap covered RV spot. Very loud and smelly place. The restaurant was awful. The prices are outrageous. No cell service or wifi. Very disappointed with my stay here.
Jul 07, 2023
rude camper blocked our access to our pull through site. they did not return for hours. luckily, we had a small pop up and could back into site. But we were still charged for a pull through. Office wouldnt discount charge. Sad. It was the 4th of July. No other sites available? Just an unfortunate experiance and definitly won't be back.

All the workers were horrible!!!!!!!!! I noticed that they all seemed foreign, as well as the ones in mt Rushmore and when I spoke with them they told Me they were on work visas. They have bad attitudes and zero customer service skills. First and last time we stay at one of these places.

What a great place!!! Something to do for all ages. It’s beautiful with so much to do at the site and also in surrounding areas! We did the Cowboy breakfast and ride horses to dinner—food was off the charts good! The entertainment was top notch!!! Can’t wait to go back!

We showed up with no reservations and the staff was very helpful to get us a spot for two nights. Beautiful campground and extremely family friendly. I would highly recommend staying here.

It was a beautiful resort! I didn’t feel like I was in a trailer park at all. There’s really no phone service and the WiFi isn’t the greatest but it was nice breaking away from electronics for awhile.
Jul 06, 2023
Great resort, my only concern is the wi fi coverage in the lower area. It was hard to connect and the signal was too weak to be useful.
Jul 06, 2023
We really enjoyed the views from our camper. The kids had fun playing golf and jumping on the pillow. The weather didn’t cooperate, so we only got one day in the pool but it was clean and well kept.

The location and facilities are the finest I have ever seen. The staff is responsive and personable. Many ways to stay and amazing amenities. This is a must see. Advice - the only downside is with all of these great things to do and experience - the lack of reliable WiFi really distracts from the experience. There is no cell service and people really rely on connectivity.

Stuck in a muddy inclined spot with little to no grass

It was a wonderful stay, however for a resort you’d expect there to be better phone/internet reception. Sites were a bit cramped and the front in/out traffic was always congested. Other than that, great entertainment, food and customer service.

Very good

We were given a campsite that crossed over a water way leading to the lake, #029. The water way had boards for the two campsites, 029 and 030 to use to cross this water to get to the bathrooom and the bathroom were surrounded by RV (you know those things that are large and most have their own bathrooms!) It rained and things just got worse, car almost got stuck several times. Don't camp at these 2

Great KOA. There was so much to do, I wish we could have stayed longer. The kids loved the playgrounds and the bounce pillow. Very close to Mt. Rushmore.

If looking for a place with lots of amenities & things to do, to the point you won’t even have to leave, this is definitely a great place! It’s also located centrally to many amazing sights to see and explore! It also houses lots of people which can be a plus for some and for us we prefer a smaller campground. Overall, great, though!

Our second time camping here. We had site 30 this time, right by the pond. We had a big divot by the fire pit and the crew was quick to add gravel so we wouldn’t trip on accident. I would say that site needs to be re graded. It was majorly sloped, it made sitting around the camp fire dangerous as you were tilted and we fell over a few times. Besides that the resort is great with lots of activiti

I wasn't able to stay as when I got there after hours it was I possible to figure out where to go. No help from any of the maps which created one of the longest nights ever as my family and I had to turn around and find a hotel to stay at

We loved the koa, but our rv spot was way too close to a tent camp, so that was not good, but everything else was great!

My experiences at KOA's have not been great...up until this point. We planned a Mt Rushmore trip, and I am 100% happy we chose the KOA to stay. 3 days and 4 nights. We went over Memorial Day weekend. You will get rain and some inclement weather. We packed most of our food, but we did partake in the pancake breakfast. Kid loved it. We rented a UTV for an afternoon for 2hrs. Worth it. You go on the back trails, and if you are adventurous enough, go on the gnarly trails too. You can drive UTV's on the open road here as long as yours is street legal with plates, I believe. This was the perfect base camp for the following activities in the area: Mt Rushmore, Bear Country, Keystone, Hill City, Rapid City, The 1880 Train (the train was ok, good for kids who haven't been on an old steamer.) The camp grounds themselves are great! Pool, shopping, horseback riding, little shops to visit. We made some really great memories here. Thanks, KOA! PS: Keep in mind, this area is 'Merica friendly...In other words, treat people right and you'll be treated right. Do not play games with the locals, the black hills are vast. Just sayin.

This campground is awesome for everyone. We have been coming here for 5 years now at least one time year usually in August. We have 4 kids from age 5 to 15 and they all love it here. It has 2 pools playgrounds volleyball horseback riding utv rentals bike rentals restaurants ice cream shop small store for groceries and camping stuff wine shop and the kids love to play with all the other kids there. We don't have a camper so we stay in the cabins and they work great for the 6 of us. They have multiple bathrooms and shower house throughout the grounds to use and a laundry mat there. We never had any problems staying here and will keep coming back every year. There is a lot of things to do within an hour drive also. I would definitely recommend this place for people with kids of all ages.
