Campground Reviews

Aug 05, 2013
We had a great time at the Harrisonburg/Broadway, VA KOA. It was peaceful and very enjoyable. The ice cream social was very nice. The only complaint we had was the gravel, there wasn't any grass in the area where our site was located, so it was difficult for our 2 year old; walking (he fell several times) and he was unable to ride his tricycle.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Yes, the area you were in is all gravel and shale. In the future, call and request a site lower in the campground or site #32. We hope to see you again, soon!

We love all the activities for kids. We tried fishing for the first time -- didn't catch, but still had fun. Only downside was the wood for the fire wasn't well seasoned.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Glad you had fun. We look forward to seeing you again.

great staff close national park a must see. great golf course near by.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

All true! We have many wonderful things to see in our area.

we love the place but were disappointed with the internet service. i understand there is a 2 hour limit per day but i was unable to even get on 2 of the days.otherwise we had a great time.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Our internet is supplied by Hughesnet Satellite. We apply 2 hour internet allotments to ensure more people have the opportunity to go online. When the park is near capacity and so many devices are hooked up there is just not enough broadband for everyone. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Positives: fairly level sites, decent spacing, and access roads aplenty (and no one-way!) Attentive, prompt, and courteous staff and nice amenities. Negatives: firewood too pricey, don't get to pick site upon booking, don't like the idea of wearing bracelets to prove I'm staying there. Your security issues are not my problem. I'd come back. We do mostly state parks, though. Better price, sit

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

In the future, call our office and our courteous staff will help you choose the perfect site. During very busy weekends we do issue bracelets in order to ensure all persons on the property are registered guests. This is for the comfort and security of our guests and their children.

My 4 yr old granddaughter wanted to go camping again. KOA provided a good choice for her. She liked kamping, she liked getting to caverns 1st time, she liked putt-putt 1st time. She had a good time. (so did we)

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We are glad to be a part of many of her "first times"! Here's to many more years of happy camping for your family!

Too far off the interstate on a very twisty road with low overhanging trees. Too much hassle for a one-night stay.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

The 3 1/2 miles from the interstate can feel very long after traveling at high speeds on the wide open highway. The good news is we have no highway noise, no trains and no airport noise.

very rustic washrooms. road past office to campsites very poor ( large potholes )

There wasn't much to do there for us. The staff was kind and helpful to us, but we witnessed some interactions with another group that we felt were not handled appropriately. I understood that they hadn't read the rules & were wrong in what they did, but how the owner spoke to them was unprofessional & some of the things she said were cruel & unacceptable with children around especially.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

You witnessed a group of adults get caught stealing private property and doing so in front of their own children. Their children were with them when they got caught with the stolen property which I am sure was very embarrassing. I allowed the group to stay rather than punish the children.

We stayed here 4 nights with intentions to relax and tour Luray Caverns. We were greeted by friendly staff with big smiles. Our site was great, was level where we parked. The camp store was well stocked and met those right now needs. A very well kept clean campground with a family atmosphere...we will be returning.

Should indicate that not all sites have cable TV. Did not affect our stay, but may be an issue for those with a longer stay.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

When making an online reservation you can choose sites with or without TV.

Very beautiful campground with large generous sites and great hookups. Staff is friendly and helpful. Area is terrific with so much within a short distance to see and do. We weren't too thrilled with the cable TV, as although the number of channels don't matter that much, about three of them were rough tough movies with lots of bad words for kids to hear.... But truly wonderful stay!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you for the kind words. Our TV channels include 3 Showtime brand movie channels, The Cartoon Network, the 4 major networks, 2 news channels, the Weather channel, Nat Geo, Nick at Night, TV land, ABC Family, Discovery, Lifetime Movie, Comedy Central and more.

our stay was too short and next time we will stay longer. everybody was helpful and friendly and nice. my only comment / concern would be the location of the camp site we stayed in (and the one next to it): because of the proximity to the pull through and the cabins and the run off from the rain....i would do away with both of those spots. this is NOT a complaint...just a suggestion! :)

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

I agree, site G8 and G9 were hit pretty hard when we had 6 inches of rain in one day. We have been reworking the runoff patterns. Not an easy task at the base of a mountain! When you return I would suggest you request G3 or G5. They are both tucked in the trees and farther from the roads.
Jul 24, 2013
A bit too woodsy and buggy for my taste. People where very nice.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

We are located at the base of the Massanutten Mountain under a canopy of Pine and Oak trees. We appreciate you trying our campground! Happy camping!
Jul 23, 2013
This was a well maintained and peaceful KOA. The staff was excellent and very helpful. A lot of attractions are within a few miles. Not many organized activities for families and the internet was sketchy but all in all a great experience.

If I could change anything, it would be your pet policy. I wanted to get away from dogs barking. Instead, it seemed like 75% of the campers had them. Yes they were on leashes, BUT... Everytime someone decided to walk their dog, we had to listen to them ALL start barking @ each other. Other than that... It was perfect!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

You are correct, recent polls show more people are traveling with pets. A barking dog can become an annoyance. I will train my staff in better ways to approach and educate the dog owners when this happens. Thank you for the heads up...and the kind words.
Jul 23, 2013
Our stay started out great, but I feel when the safety of campers, especially children are put below that of a poisonous snake, there is something wrong. I don't think it was necessary to chase my child around the campsite with a dead snake. The whole situation could have been handled differently.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Situation could have been avoided had the child been supervised by a responsible adult. It is our policy that all children under the age of 12 be directly supervised by an adult at all times. This is especially important near the pond.
Jul 22, 2013
The accommodations were great and really enjoyed the stay EXCEPT that being woken up by barking dogs was not good. Different people should not be allowed to ALL take their dogs into the dog area at the same time. We have a dog and know that dogs bark but owners should also know their dogs to ensure they respect others QUIET time.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

I am sorry the dogs in the dog playground woke you. In the future, please alert a staff member when anything like this happens. We do our best to keep on top of things and put a quick end to any disruptive behavior.
Jul 22, 2013
I enjoyed the stay, fishing was a great bonus. The pool area needs powerwashed that was the only thing I would recommend.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Yes, the trees at the South end of the pool deck do cause a staining problem. We have been trying to get to the power washing when the pool is not being used. Sadly, with the temps hovering at 90 that pool is used all day. We are glad you enjoyed your stay, otherwise. We hope to see you again, soon.

It was very relaxing. People were very nice, could have been a little cleaner especially around the pavilions, wish the pool was bigger for all the people that were camping and monitored a bit closer. People were smoking, kids were taking over pool and squirting people with water guns to the point where they got out of the water. Everyone should be able to have a good time. Events were great.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

I apologize for the over-crowded pool. We did have a church youth group here for one night and the kids did get quite rambunctious. My staff member did put an end to their shenanigans when it was brought to our attention.

We had a great time! The place was clean! The staff was friendly! And helpful! The only complant would be that the cabins did not have water at the site! Had to keep going to the bathhouse to get!

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Yes, the rustic cabins have no water in them. There is a water hydrant conveniently located alongside the walkway you took to get to the bath house. I will train my staff to point out the "water here icon" on the campground map we give out at registration.

Very nice campgrounds and people.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Thank you.
Jul 21, 2013
narrow road going in,each member very helpful.I stayed in our 43 ft motorhome, hard to get level. Great cable tv & power.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

Route 608 is a standard width secondary road with enough room for two semi tractor trailers to pass comfortably. However, it can feel quite narrow after the wide open feeling of the Interstate.
Jul 20, 2013
Wasnt bad for the most part but it did not have a family friendly feel. We were told our son was not to be without us at any time. Also the yelled at a 6year old and were more concerned about a poisonous snake than the safety of the children.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

The unsupervised 6 year old child impaled a nonpoisonous water snake at our 17 foot deep pond. We did ask he be with you at all times as this is our policy for all persons under the age of 12. We cannot be responsible for the safety of unsupervised children. We are sorry if this is an inconvenience.

The only issue I had was the wifi hot spot would not reach us at our location. I had to walk 3 camper downs to see my e-mail. Little inconvenient.

CAMPGROUND RESPONSE / COMMENTS:

After reading this review we checked the reception in the area where you were and have added another repeater. This alleviated the problem. Thanks for the heads up!
