Campground Reviews

This campground does not meet KOA standards, very disappointed. It was very rundown. No one ever answers the phone, we were not able to be with our group as promised at check in. No WIFI as advertised. Water pressure was very low. Prices were almost doubled in the last few years. I used to love to stay here before, I doubt if I will ever be back.

We were there to ride and were self contained so we did not check out the facilities. However, check in is a bit frustrating with no assigned spaces and some spaces without all utilities. We had a water outage, and no wi-fi access. Next time I'll just come earlier in the day to pick a spot. It is a fantastic area to ride out from.

We primarily stay fo run the trails in the Forrest. But the campground is very nice and the staff is always very accommodating...

Not what you normaly expect in a KOA. Booked a 50 amp premium spot, and was charged for it, but then told you can drive around to see if you can find one once we were there. Couldn't find one, and after putting our camper in a ditch because of knocked down marker poles and no lighting, we did manage to find a 30 amp site, with a sewer hook up on the wrong side. Staff didn't care.

Worst KOA ever. Unclear where the office is & RV can’t go near office. We were told to just pick an empty site. They were poorly marked. WiFi didn’t work and office was closed before 5:00. A longterm resident said the WiFi was out for 2+ months. The next day we were told that WiFi was being upgraded – for 2 months? Really? No cable – I ASSUMED all KOA’s had cable. Septic drains poorly l

The office staff are very friendly. I would recommend communicating directly with the office and not the outside crew. It’s a beautiful location. Very quiet on the weekdays. They are in the top ten of ATV trails in the country, so the weekends are busy with ATV families. We enjoyed watching the families interact and have fun sharing their sport. Laundry was closed and grounds were a bit littered

It’s a bit trashy. In a meth sort of way. Like some slobs living there. Lots of trash around the woods in the 30 amp section. Clean it up! Lots of vacancy because it’s sketchy and makes people uneasy.

Location should be advertised as ATV/dirt bike park; KOA sign says ATVs welcome & free internet. Area has lots of ATV trails, but ATVs are going loudly in the park from sunup to sundown and use roads as raceway instead of trails. No internet or burn pits as advertised. Spots are 1st come 1st get. No help from office; worker speeds around park on motor bike. Maybe Mgt is new at running RV park. :-(

This is the worst KOA we've been too. Like the wild wild west. Can't really tell where sites are. People spread themselves across multiple sites. ATVs driven by children way too fast in campground. Not sure how they know who's supposed to be there and not.

Reservation was for a pull in site. Upon arrival we were told to drive around and find a site. This became difficult with so many "sold" sites. It would've been helpful to have an escort to the site. The one we ended up with was a back in site. A beer can fire ring was on our site, as well as a deeply dug hole under the picnic table, filled with trash. We won't be back.
Jan 24, 2022
Upon arrival we were told to find our own site as they did not reserve even with an up front payment. The office closed at 4pm and we had no way of contacting anyone. For long term campers it must be okay but we were not aware of that. No doubt we will not be back.

The camp ground was kept amazing. It’s the help behind the desk. They never answer the phone. I walked in to check in and all 3 people where on there cell phones. I tried calling many times and only got a recording. Never got call backs. I finally got someone on the phone and made. Reservations. Very bad communication.

Worst campground I’ve ever stayed at. The list is too long to go through everything so I’ll summarize: 6 miles of unpaved rough road, unhelpful uniformed and uninterested staff, no direction on where to camp, trash and unkept sites, most sites not level, permanent residents sites were unkept and noisy. Don’t stay at this campground, it shouldn’t be a KOA.

It was very nice place to stay or trailer that we rented was very clean and had everything we needed staff was friendly

There is no assistance at the KOA. When you make your reservation over the phone, they tell you to come to the office for an assigned spot. When you arrive there is no one in the office and you actually have to drive around in your rv for over an hour to find a spot that will fit your unit, amps, etc. Really cannot tell from the crappy map what is what. VERY VERY UNORGANIZED!

Was a bit reluctant to book here after reading some of the reviews. We had a nice stay here with no issues. I can see where it might get hectic on holidays and busy times of the year. There are alot of atv's, but for the most part they didn't get out of hand. Bath houses looked ok, though we didn't use them. Pool looked nice, just too cold to use. Alot of full timers there, all nice folks.

First time was great! Second time not so great got a tent site with electricity and water but they didnt have the adapter

The website states there is WI-FI, that was not the case at all. All of the hiking trails are blocked off with trees that were cut down and laid across the trail to block it. It states that there is a beach. That area is a mess the same garbage can with the same garbage in it is still there since last year. The rest room in the club house were filthy. Unfortunate, it could be a beautiful place.

Main problem was filthy bathrooms in Rec Hall. Filthy on Friday....I called office Sat around 11am to report still dirty. Also no toilet paper, no paper towels, one toilet roped off, one toilet full and unflushable. And one toilet filthy. 3 hours later after me calling office 2 additional times someone finally cleaned them. I also called corporate office. $65 per night I expected better.

Way out in the country, but we enjoy that. Quiet and peaceful. Campground was clean.

This place was a great riding get away for the family. Trails were great for all ages. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Definitely a place to come back and visit.

The bathrooms are totally unkempt. The kitchen no longer has a stove or refrigerator. Junk vehicle's and run down trailers are kept there. For this trash the prices are unreal. I'm surprised that KOA allows their name to be associated with this mess. They are selling sites and it is no longer a decent campground.
Jan 24, 2022
Very disappointed. Staff was more interested in selling property and not interested in helping the campers. Laundry room was out of service. Will not be returning

Looks like they are working on updating the campground. The wifi was out but they said that was part of the upgrade. Somewhat concerned they will be making the campground owners only in the future.

Love the park and great Bathhouses. The BIGGEST issue is the lack of assigning spots when you reserve. We arrived late with diesel truck and trailer making tons of noise trying to find an open spot. You have to physically get out of your vehicle at every open spot and then review the map. This part is a NIGHTMARE!!! I cannot say this enough. Just assign spaces. PLEASE. you would have gotten a 10.

Been coming to rally’s for 5 years. The bathrooms were filthy, and the kitchen area was not conducive for us. Also the noise from arv’s was bad. To far to drive for nothing. Thanks

We have stayed there many times. Always enjoyed our stay. This time, not so great. Sites aren't marked well and utilities aren't working at several sites. It was very difficult to find a few sites together with operational utilities. They have quite a bit of construction going on. Building a lot of cabins and selling off lots. Probably won't return until utility upgrades are made.

We have come here for years, this has declined dramatically As KOA park, it will never be the standard we expect. Bathrooms were only half functional, roped off shower stalls and toilet stalls. Laundry closed , people actually living there with all of their belongings strewn everywhere, makes the whole place feel trashy. Power boxes falling over hard to find a site that worked and we lost water!
Jan 24, 2022
The rest rooms in the camp were filthy. When complaints were made the person in charge, they stated that as a franchise owned park they did not need to meet KOA rules. They further added the KOA sign was there only to bring people to the park. They are only interested in selling lots, not running a campground. They represent themselves as having a kitchen, but the kitchen has been removed P Poor!

So disorganized would not recommend.

Now privately owned; no longer affiliated with KOA (only for advertisement). This matters when it comes to location amenities/upkeep. ATV access is great, but it is now turning into residential (trashy) trailer park due to individual lot selling. Facilities are poorly maintained and no available Wi-Fi. Sad to see this hidden hideaway treasure disappear as we’ve been staying here for year

So disappointed! No help or guidance to find a spot that works for your camper, it's just a free for all, find what you can. Our group had 4 lots, 1 had a full sewer line and 1 had a bad power box that had to be repaired on the spot. No wifi as advertised. Trails overgrown and not safe. Unsupervised young children run lose all day. Laundry was a joke. Unkempt lots with tarps/trash. Never again!!!!

No directions as to what to do when you first drive in. No signage that the front gate is closed and you have to drive thru the campground to the back to the office. No assigned sites. Was told to just drive around and find our own. Many of the sites were unlevel, had no working electric, water, or sewer. It was a jackpot: you drove around, stopped to check it out and moved on to the next on

I enjoyed my weekend at the Fort McCoy KOA. Day time the weather was great but I did not come prepared for the cold nights. My fault.

I was with a Rally the first weekend in December. The management was very different from what we had experienced in the past. The rally group did not have a central location. We were scattered throughout the park. We had difficulty with the nightly cost, the kitchen was burned out and was not to be replaced, we had planned or traditional Christmas dinner, we were not informed about this situat

We had a rally of 54 campers. Some sites had no water, some had no sewer, some had no electricity. We had to share hookups. Most of the pedestals were rusted & broken. Although they knew we were a large group, most attendees had to request a picnic table (most of which were so warped and splintered they could not be used). The TV in the clubhouse did not work. The ground condition was terrible

Very disappointed with this campground. We were with a rally group & area near the clubhouse was not blocked off as promised. Clubhouse was very dirty & we had to clean the floor, tables, bathroom, & chairs ourselves to set up prior to using. All the kitchen appliances have been removed to our surprise. This made having dinner together very difficult. Ground VERY unlevel for RV's. Disappointed

What a great, out of the way place to camp. Located beside a lake, there was always a nice breeze blowing. Campsites are very large and are all pull-through, which is a nice option. Bathhouse/clubhouse is very nice and the restrooms are clean. Staff is very friendly. It's not your typical KOA, as everything is very laid back, probably because it is located in the middle of nowhere. It's one of those places where you go if all you want to do is camp and relax. They do have activities for children in the morning.
