Meet Your Hosts
"Come camp with us near the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan"Ginter Bansen and his wife Ursela saw an opportunity in the early 1970's to bring a new style of camping to the Southwest Michigan area and seized upon the opportunity. They purchased a blueberry farm in 1973 and converted it into one of the first KOA Campgrounds in the United States in 1974.
They started off in 1974 with over 100 sites that were mostly back-in and over the years have upgraded them to include full hookups, 50 amp service, cable tv and wireless internet. Listening to the needs and wants of their campers they also added rustic cabins followed by deluxe cabins and converted some of the big rig sites to pull-thru sites.
Before owning the campground Ginter was an engineer and Ursela was an account executive. Knowing they had a passion for owning their own business, they sought out a franchise opportunity with KOA and have been satisfying their guests for almost 40 years.
Today the Coloma / St Joseph KOA offers campers everything from a jumping pillow to a playground, seasonal swimming pool and hot tub along with other sought after amenities like miniature golf, horseshoes, shuffleboard and more.
