In the Refuge you can observe many species of wildlife, as well as the famous Chincoteague Wild Ponies. The Refuge also offers a wide variety of nature related activities, including hiking & biking trails, bird watching, crabbing, clamming, oystering, and fishing. Whether you came for the ponies, the beach or the glorious sunsets, Chincoteague Island has it all. It’s truly the perfect family destination. Everything is close enough on the Island to bike or even walk to, and the beach is second to none.
