The 2017 KOA Chincoteague Island's Pirate's Weekend is Saturday, July 29 this year! The weekend will be filled with activities and events for guests of all ages! Pirate Weekend will feature a pirate photo booth, walking the plank, searching for your booty, dress up, and a water balloon battle You won't want to miss this adventure; so bring your best pirate voice, costume, and peg leg (optional) to this campground-wide event!
A local pass time, KOA Chincoteague is going to be picking and grinning at our first annual Crab Feast. On the menu will be AUCE steamed and seasoned crabs, fried chicken, corn on the cob, homemade potato salad, and hush puppies. It's bring your own beer so be sure to pick up your favorite beverages along the way! This will be a ticketed event; adults $35 each, kids 5-14 $15, and under age 4 is free. Throw on your Hawaiian shirt and grass skirt for our first Luau Party & Pig Roast at the pavilion. Activities include face painting, Hawaiian music, leis, limbo contest, Hawaiian dancing and MORE. Chincoteague Island KOA will hold it's very first Campfire Cook-off competition. Savory and sweet dishes will be judged by our favorite campers…the kids! Trophies will be awarded for the best savory and sweet categories.
Come out for an afternoon of wine, music and art. Cork & Canvas is a wine and arts festival that includes live music, great food, an artisan market and kids' entertainment. This day-long event offers samplings from various local Virginia wineries with the scenic views of the Assateague Lighthouse.
Chincoteague Island KOA will host a site decorating and costume contest. Fill your RV and campsites with a little hocus pocus by decorating your site with festive Halloween decor. A hayride around the campground to judge the event will take place. A special treat will be given out to the most creative site at the activities center, where a costume contest will be held, so come wearing your most spooky or fun Halloween costume.

The world-famous Chincoteague Pony Swim takes place this week. At "slack tide" on the last Wednesday in July, Chincoteague's "Saltwater Cowboys" herd the wild Chincoteague ponies across the Assateague Channel to move them from Assateague Island to neighboring Chincoteague Island. After the swim, the ponies "parade" to the carnival grounds where the foals are auctioned off the next day (Thursday). Then on Friday, the adult ponies will make the return swim to Assateague Island where they will live in the wild for another year. Camp with KOA Chincoteague for this event and we will provide free trolley transportation to and from these events. There will be a minimum 4-night stay for this week.
Join us at the 18th Annual Chili Chowder Cook-off at the Chincoteague Island Carnival Grounds. This event has free admission, live music, arts & crafts vendors, great food, raffles and family FUN. Be sure to catch the Little Miss Chili Pepper and Mr. Hot Stuff Competition. Food service begins at noon. The 4th Annual Car Show, registration is from 10 am - Noon. Trophies will be awarded at 3 pm. $10 registration fee benefits the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company Fire House. First 50 registrants will receive a commemorative dash plaque.
